This wood carving is inspired by the painting at Kelaniya Raha Maha Vihara by the legendary painter Solias Mendis. The carving is of Princess Hemamala and Prince Danta bringing the Buddha’s sacred tooth relic from Jambudveepa to Lankadveepa for safekeeping. We are dedicating this art to the name of eternal artist Walimuni Solias Mendis as a tribute that is due for the mighty service he rendered to the island of Ceylon. I have spent 45 days to work on this project. The carving on this photos was only covered with a wood preservative at the time of capturing this photograph. This has been turned into a finished product with a few more layers of paint. Wood I have used for this carving is Jak Wood and the thickness of this carving is 3.1CM.
