VERVE LINE – The Weight of Connection

The Weight of Connection explores the complex relationship between attachment, memory, and transformation through a network of intertwined organic forms. The forms appear to bend, loop, cross, and fold into one another, suggesting roots, branches, tendrils, or fragments of an imagined living organism. Their ambiguous identity allows the work to move beyond botanical representation into a more psychological and symbolic territory. The composition is held together by a continuous visual tension. Some forms appear to support others, while others seem to constrain, penetrate, or pull against them. This interaction creates a sense of both belonging and struggle—a reflection of the relationships through which individual identities are shaped. The finely rendered textures and earthy tonalities give the work an archaeological and almost ancestral character. The delicate linear marks evoke natural fibres, aged surfaces, and traces left by time. Against this quiet ground, the darker forms become carriers of memory, suggesting experiences that have accumulated, intertwined, and remained embedded within the passage of life. At the centre of the work is the idea that connection is never entirely simple. To be connected is to be influenced, supported, shaped, and sometimes constrained. The intertwined forms therefore become metaphors for family, culture, history, relationships, and the invisible structures that bind one experience to another. Rather than presenting a single narrative, the artist creates an open field of interpretation. The forms seem to exist in a state of continuous becoming—neither fully separated nor completely unified. The Weight of Connection ultimately reflects on the paradox of human existence: we become ourselves through the very connections that make it impossible to exist entirely alone.
